Recently I came across a game which some of you may have heard of, its a freeware version of rock band on the pc.
Its called Frets On Fire.

The standard Frets on Fire is extremely basic, with a bad graphic main menu and casette menu. But the game has mods available, which you can download from the fan forum, www.fretsonfire.net
These mods include enhanced graphics (The one I use has the official theme of Rock Band 2 which is very eye pleasing. They also enclude more customisation, and the ability to attach Rock Band/ Guitar Hero equipment. e.g Rock Band's Fender guitar and drum kit.

When the player does not have access to a guitar controller or a similar device, the keyboard is used, it's held on it's side as this picture demonstrates.

Or anything that works for you, the keys can be changed.
